The ABR test measures the response of the parts of a child's nervous system that affect hearing. The ABR test measures the auditory nerve's response to sound. This happens when a newborn or infant fails a hearing screening test given in the hospital shortly after birth, or in older children when there is suspected hearing loss that has not been confirmed by more conventional hearing tests.
